Canoa Quebrada is an old and small village installed on cliffs that was discovered and popularized by the hippies in the sixties. This beach has transparent water surrounded by enormous multicolored dunes. From the top of these dunes, you could see what the locals call "the magic sunset" or, at night of full moon, the sea becomes a silver mirror where you can see a dancing moon moving across the sea.
The nature of this beach is fragile, and for that reason a special attention must be given to the dunes and cliffs and any construction in the beach is allowed only after a detailed study and considering that destruction of the vegetation is prohibited. This beach is in a Protected Area that was created in 1998 to protect the area and keep untouched all natural attractions as well as local flora and fauna.

The beach has a good infrastructure, and in recent years it has a big development, but it is still recommendable to book your accommodation before coming. As happens normally in this kind of beach you will not find big hotels like in other Brazil cities but excellent villas.
FLIGHTS AND HOW TO GO TO CANOA QUEBRADA
The beach is located 164 Kms from Fortaleza. The nearest airport is Pinto Martins in Fortaleza, capital of Ceara State. To this airport there are local flights coming daily, mainly of the following airlines: Gol, Tam and Varig. If you are coming from Europe you can check Tap Air Portugal and if you are coming from United States or Canada, you should check United Airlines for flights to Rio de Janeiro and combinations. But the best thing to do is to check the web for cheap flights to Brazil.
ACTIVITIES IN CANOA QUEBRADA
Kitesurf is one of the main activities in Canoa Quebrada. This beach has winds from 20 to 30 knots blowing laterally from the right. The top wind speed month is December. Canoa Quebrada beach is excellent also for beginners because is plenty of space.
There are a lot of rides to do in Canoa Quebrada and normally the most important of them is to go around the dunes of the beach, and you can visit there the Vila do Esteves, a small fisherman village that remains exactly the same than 50 years ago.
If you love buggies, in Canoa Quebrada there is one of the most interesting trips to do in Brazil: travel 35 KM to Punta Grossa while seeing spectacular cliffs on route.
At nigh, Canoa Quebrada has a lot of attractions: restaurants, bars, dancing clubs, etc. Along the main street in Canoa Quebrada, Broadway, you will find a lot of artist performing their unique and exotic music style.
WHEN TO GO TO CANOA QUEBRADA
In this beach the temperature is always nice (between 24 and 30 degrees), and the refreshing wind makes thing easier for the beach walkers.
