CONTACT USThe Brazil Carnival is probable the biggest party on earth: it is an annual festival that normally takes place 4 days before Ash Wednesday, in February. Its origin came from Paris, but progressively started tacking elements of African cultures.
The concept of "cordoes", which means groups of people that go parading together, started many years ago and it is now on of the most important characteristic of the most famous Brazilian Carnival: the Rio de Janeiro Carnival.
RIO DE JANEIRO AND BAHIA CARNIVAL
In Bahia Carnival the music is very different from his counterpart in Rio de Janeiro. Bahia has more different rhythm like for example: reggae, axe, and samba reggae. And also the activities are very different: there are big trucks with groups performing on the top and the fans following it trough the streets next to the ocean, while they dance, sing and drink.
The Rio de Janeiro Carnival added the concept of blocos, which consist in a group of people that not only parade together but also has special costumes and are associated with a neighborhood or what they call "escola do samba", meaning samba school.
In Rio there is a big competence to discover which of these escolas is the best one. To compete they have to pass trough the "sambodromo", that is where the judges are. But normally they also parade in Copacabana and Ipanema and in others Rio de Janeiro beaches.
